SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A 17-year-old boy who reported being shot in the leg at a Sioux Falls Wal-Mart has been charged with false reporting.

Police say the boy was at the store with his mother on Saturday when he reported being shot in the parking lot by a robbery suspect.

KELO-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1G9pKfr ) that officers used security camera footage to determine that the boy had shot himself and made up the story.

The boy was treated at a hospital and released, and has been taken to a juvenile detention center.
