HERNANDO, Miss. (AP) - As the new planning director for DeSoto County, Tom Haysley looks forward to helping guide larger-scope projects affecting long-term commercial and residential growth.

The Commercial Appeal reports (https://bit.ly/1CYoPT3 ) Haysley was named last week by the Board of Supervisors to permanently fill the post vacated by Ted Garrod, who returned to his native Florida last month to attend to family health matters.

Haysley joined DeSoto government in 2011 as grants administrator, and in 2012 he was promoted to deputy director of planning under Garrod.

As to long-term planning goals, Haysley says there’s follow-up to the three-year Interstate 69/269 International Trade Corridor study that in fall 2013 produced a blueprint to guide development along the DeSoto “buckle” of the roadway that will connect Mexico and Canada.
