HANOVER, Va. (AP) - A Mechanicsville doctor faces up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

Media outlets report that 48-year-old Dr. Michael J. Carlson entered his plea Monday in Hanover Circuit Court. Judge Sarah Deneke scheduled sentencing for Feb. 6.

The charge stems from the January death of 34-year-old Meg Menzies. Court records show Menzies was struck by an SUV while running with her husband along a narrow shoulder on state Route 54 in Hanover County. She and her husband were training for the Boston Marathon.

Police say Carlson was driving the SUV.

Thousands of joggers paid tribute to Menzies with spontaneous runs in the days after her death.
