THREE RIVERS, Mich. (AP) - St. Joseph County authorities have identified a 10-year-old boy who was struck and killed by a van while crossing a western Michigan road with his father and 15-year-old brother.

Three Rivers Commercial-News reports (https://bit.ly/1yI5T72 ) the county sheriff’s department said Monday Trenton Holtslander was killed around 12:30 a.m. Sunday in Three Rivers.

Witnesses say Holtslander appeared to have dropped something on US-131. A northbound vehicle driven by a 25-year-old Three Rivers man hit Holtslander as he tried to pick up the item.

Holtslander later died at a local hospital.

The accident is under investigation.
