MIAMI (AP) - Miami-Dade County Public Schools is teaming with Wells Fargo and the makers of the award-winning documentary “First Generation” to help spark a discussion about the challenges facing first generation college students.

O Cinema in Miami Shores is showing the independent 2011 film Tuesday evening. The film follows the lives of four very different students seeking to become the first in their families to attend college. It won awards in Napa Valley, Idyllwild and Newport Beach’s film festivals, among others.

Miami-Dade Public Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvahlo, cast members and the filmmakers are among those who will discuss the film with some 400 students, parents and civic leaders. The event follows screenings of the film for more than 2,000 high school students to address the major hurdles to college attendance and completion.
