OZARK, Ala. (AP) - The fire chief in the southeast Alabama city of Ozark is retiring.

Ozark Mayor Billy Blackwell said Fire Chief Greg Boutwell won’t officially retire until the end of the year. But Boutwell will be taking accumulated leave off for the rest of the year.

Blackwell tells The Dothan Eagle (https://bit.ly/1wWiPXE) that Boutwell has 25 years with the Ozark Fire Department, including the last four as fire chief.

The mayor said Boutwell has done a good job as fire chief, improving the city’s fire insurance rating and helping to make the fire department recognized across the state.

Blackwell said Steve Sketo has been appointed as interim fire chief for the City of Ozark. Sketo has already been serving as the operations director for the Ozark Fire Department and Ozark EMS.
