FRANKLIN, Wis. (AP) - Authorities have charged a 28-year-old man who they say admitted to setting an apartment complex fire in Franklin.

Justin Nass of Franklin was charged in Milwaukee County court with one felony count of arson of a building following the Dec. 1 fire. He faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted.

Authorities estimate the fire caused more than $400,000 in damage to the building.

Nass tells police he ignited several items in the apartment he shared with his mother because he was depressed and felt harassed. He says he didn’t want to hurt anybody.

Authorities say three smoke detectors were removed from their mountings before the fire. They found two of the smoke detectors without batteries in the apartment.

No injuries were reported.

Online court records didn’t indicate an attorney.
