STOCKBRIDGE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A funeral service is Friday for an Ingham County sheriff’s deputy who died after crashing his patrol vehicle during a chase.

Twenty-five-year-old Grant Whitaker was killed about 2 a.m. Sunday when his patrol car struck a tree in Stockbridge Township, southeast of Lansing.

The sheriff’s department says visitation is Thursday and Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea. The funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Friday at the church.

State police are asking for help in finding the occupants of the fleeing vehicle.

Whitaker had been a sheriff’s deputy for a year and a half. A memorial fund has been set up at Mason State Bank in Mason.
