GONZALES, La. (AP) - The Gonzales City Council has called for a special election to fill the council seat vacated by Gary Lacombe’s resignation last month.

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1AaKrFT ) Monday’s vote came at a meeting where Councilman Timothy Vessel, recalled by 75 percent of the vote Saturday, was in his seat as usual. Vessel is still within the nine days allowed by state law to contest the recall election.

The city council’s resolution calls for a special election on March 28 to fill the unexpired term of Lacombe, who was targeted along with Vessel in the recall election, until Lacombe resigned on Nov. 25.

Lacombe’s term expires Dec. 31, 2016.

In the meantime, before the special election in March, the council will consider a temporary appointment for someone to fill Lacombe’s former seat.
