WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) - A 58-year-old suburban Chicago woman has been sentenced to 24 months of probation and 18 months of periodic imprisonment for stealing from her elderly employer while she worked as his personal assistant.

The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports (https://bit.ly/12Z4TiQ ) Beverly Benson of Schaumburg was ordered to repay more than $6,000 and perform 100 hours of community service.

Jurors convicted Benson in September of aggravated identity theft of a person over 60 years of age, four counts of financial exploitation of an elderly person and theft of more than $10,000 but less than $100,000.

She’ll be able to serve her time on electronic home monitoring if she checks in weekly at the Lake County Jail. And she won’t be allowed to hold a job where she’s solely responsible for finances.
