FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - Alaska State Troopers are investigating a crash that killed a 52-year-old North Pole man northeast of Fairbanks.

Troopers say David Haase lost control of his sedan just after 11 p.m. Sunday at Mile 4 Chena Hot Springs Road as he drove east. A witness told troopers Haase was traveling at about 80 mph.

His car slid into the westbound lane and was struck by a vehicle driven by 53-year-old James Graham of Clear.

Troopers say the road was covered with black ice.

Haase was not wearing a seat belt.

Steese Volunteer Fire Department responders pronounced Haase dead about 20 minutes after the crash.

Graham was wearing a seat belt and sustained what troopers said were minor injuries.
