MACON, Ga. (AP) - A man who fled the scene after his gun accidentally discharged and killed one of his friends has been sentenced to three years in prison for involuntary manslaughter.

The Telegraph of Macon reports (https://bit.ly/163IG4A ) 24-year-old Sharonte Terrell Davis was sentenced Monday in Bibb County Superior Court and is also ordered to serve seven years of probation.

Bibb County prosecutor Neil Halvorson says Davis was sitting behind 32-year-old Ronald Howard in a car and his gun discharged when Howard reclined his seat. Authorities have said the gunshot wounded Howard in his back.

Halvorson said Davis dropped the gun as he fled the scene and it discharged again, wounding a police officer in the hand when they tried picking it up.
