MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A well-known New York street performer faces charges of resisting arrest without violence and disturbing the peace while protesting the wealthy during an Art Basel event at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

Police say Kalan Sherrard tried fighting off officers who were herding a group of about 30 protesters out of the building Sunday when he reached into his pocket and pulled out something unexpected.

Officer Alex Delgado wrote in an arrest report that the item was “discovered to be a prosthetic penis sex toy,” which was impounded by police.

Sherrard told the Miami Herald (https://hrld.us/1vIrqLP ) that police apparently mistook his toy for a handgun.
