AKRON, Ohio (AP) - A federal judge has sentenced an Akron man to 22 years in prison after he admitted using the Internet to try to entice a 12-year-old girl for sex.

Court records said 31-year-old Nicholas Bowers was sentenced after pleading guilty last week to enticement of a child, and receiving and distributing child pornography.

Prosecutors say Bowers, of Akron, sent obscene images of himself to the girl in an effort to get her to meet with him. They say he also received and distributed child pornography from 2011 until his arrest earlier this year.

Prosecutors say the investigation began in January when a father in Toronto, Canada, contacted police regarding sexually explicit chats and e-mail messages his daughter received. They were linked to Bowers. A search turned up devices containing child pornography.
