SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - One area that Utah officials are eying for a new state prison may not be available for long as landowner Josh Romney and his business partners are also pursuing a residential project on the land.

Romney, the son of former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, is among the investors in a 480-acre plot in Utah County near Saratoga Springs.

Utah’s Prison Relocation Commission identified the land as one of six possible sites for the prison last week.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1yyWGtX) Romney and his business partners are also working with the Saratoga Springs City Council to possibly develop the land for homes.

The deal comes as congresswoman-elect Mia Love came out Tuesday in opposition to a prison near Saratoga Springs, saying it would hamper growth.

Love is the former mayor of Saratoga Springs.
