ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman and the Tampa Bay Rays have reached an agreement to let the team explore new stadium sites in the Tampa Bay area.

The agreement will be discussed at a press conference at Tropicana Field on Tuesday.

The proposal comes after years of deadlock between the city and the baseball team, which plays in Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg on a lease that lasts until 2027. It calls for the team to compensate the city for every unfulfilled year of the contract.

The team would also have to cover any remaining bond payments, while the city would cover demolition costs.

Also the new site has to be in Pinellas or Hillsborough counties and the team has until December 2017 to decide on a new site.
