CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - Authorities say they have a witness in the fatal stabbing of a 23-year-old woman who later was found dead in a Clovis park.

The Clovis News Journal reports (https://goo.gl/mVnmV0) that the witness told police he was crossing a fence at Goodwin Lake Trails park when he heard wailing he thought was coming from an animal being killed.

The witness’s statement was included in a Nov. 9 incident report released Monday by Clovis police. The 24-page report, heavily redacted, was released in response to a public records request by the Clovis News Journal.

Clovis police say 25-year-old Matthew Jennings confessed last week to the stabbing death of Ariel Ulibarri.

The witness also says he saw Ulibarri’s 6-year-old son running toward the same park entrance.
