BRISTOL, Va. (AP) - A special election is being held to fill a southwest Virginia seat in the House of Delegates.

Tuesday’s election is to replace Republican 4th District Delegate Ben Chafin. Candidates for the special election include Republican Todd Pillion and Democrat Donnie Rife.

The special election allows time to have the new delegate sworn in for the start of the 2015 general session.

Chafin won a special election in August for the 38th Senate District seat held by Democrat Phillip Puckett, who resigned in June. Chafin was a delegate for less than a year.

The 4th District includes Dickenson County and parts of Russell, Washington and Wise counties.
