ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis police are responding to an outbreak of downtown violence by targeting the parents of youthful offenders.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (bit.ly/1ywjShr ) reports that police have issued summons on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor to relatives of four teens targeted in a weekend drive-by shooting of a 16-year-old.

A city ordinance holds parents responsible for wrongdoing by their minor children if the parents’ lack of supervision contributed to the misconduct. The shooting victim’s 31-year-old mother could face a misdemeanor charge of child endangerment.

The Saturday night shooting follows the arrest of three girls between 12 and 14 in connection with two downtown beatings and a group attack on a lawyer walking home from work.
