LA GRANGE PARK, Ill. (AP) - A suburban Chicago high school has been closed until Thursday after a quarter of the school’s 730 students were absent Monday because they were sick with the flu.

Eighteen teachers and staff members at Nazareth Academy in La Grange Park were also out sick Monday and principal Deborah Tracy says that in more than 20 years at the school she has never seen an outbreak that hit this hard this quickly.

School officials say students started getting sick a couple of weeks ago and the number has been climbing ever since.

Workers at the school are cleaning the school, scrubbing door handles, bathrooms and classrooms.
