SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - The National Association of Motorcoach Operators has selected Shreveport for its 2014 convention.

The Times reports (https://bit.ly/LX06pv) the proposal offered to the bus group by the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau won out over Niagara Falls, N.Y.

The convention will be Aug. 15-17. More than 100 motorcoach service owners are expected to attend the gathering at the Shreveport Convention Center.

The organization consists of more than 60 companies that provide custom buses for a variety of events.

After the convention concludes, the South Central Motorcoach Association will hold its gathering at the convention center. The Aug. 17-20 sessions are expected to draw 300 people.

“Hosting NAMO is a chance for Shreveport-Bossier to showcase itself and attract more group business to the area,” said Kelly Wells, vice president of sports and tourism for the convention and tourist bureau.

According to a 2009 Shreveport-Bossier hotel study, an average motorcoach carrying 34 passengers creates an estimated economic impact of about $60,000 in the Shreveport-Bossier area.
