WESTERLY, R.I. (AP) - A Westerly man has apologized for hosting a party where some middle school students drank alcohol.

Forty-one-year-old Brian Holdredge was charged Friday with procuring alcohol for minors and violating the town’s social host ordinance. He was issued summons to appear in both District Court and municipal court.

Westerly police say Holdredge held a birthday party for his daughter Jan. 31. About 30 young people attended, many of them 12 and 13 years old. Police say at least two children drank alcohol.

Holdredge, a youth football coach and volunteer firefighter, told police he left some alcohol out after pouring himself a drink and later realized that some teens were drinking. He said he took the alcohol away from them.

Holdredge posted an apology on Facebook, saying he made a “foolish mistake.”
