BEND, Ore. (AP) - An outbreak of gastrointestinal illness has sickened 40 inmates and eight workers at the Deschutes County Jail in Bend, Ore.

The sheriff’s office said Tuesday it’s working with the health department on sanitary steps to control the outbreak, and expects test results Thursday to identify the strain and control its spread.
