REYNOLDS, Ind. (AP) - Numerous water main breaks in a northern Indiana town has closed a highway through the community and prompted a boil water order for residents.

The water main breaks happened Monday in the White County town of Reynolds after temperatures fell below zero in the area.

Town Board vice president Chris Fullerton tells WLFI-TV (https://bit.ly/1fctEq6 ) that crews had to dig a large hole on U.S. 421 to reach one of the breaks. He says the frozen ground caused long delays for workers in the town about 25 miles north of Lafayette.

The state highway department has closed U.S. 421 in the area to through traffic.

Fullerton says residents of the 500-person town likely will be asked to boil their drinking water for at least three says.
