CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Retired hospital executive J. Thomas Jones has been appointed to the West Virginia University Board of Governors.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin announced Jones‘ appointment Friday.

Jones fills the unexpired term of Charles Vest, a former Massachusetts Institute of Technology president who died in December of pancreatic cancer. Jones will serve through June 2016.

Jones retired last year after serving as president and CEO of the West Virginia United Health System. He oversaw the expansion of the health system to the largest in the state during his 11-year tenure.

Jones has a business administration degree from WVU and earned a master’s degree in hospital administration from the University of Minnesota.
