ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Alaska State Troopers say a body found last week has been identified as that of a 33-year-old Palmer man who was reported missing in January.

Troopers say the state medical examiner’s office identified the body as that of Corey Newell.

Troopers say Newell was last seen Dec. 29. He was reported missing on Jan. 2.

Troopers in Palmer were notified Feb. 12 that a body was found in the woods in the Meadow Lakes area.

Troopers were notified Tuesday about the positive identification.

According to troopers, the cause and circumstances of Newell’s death remain under investigation.
