PHOENIX (AP) - An electrician in Chandler has won a $1 million second-place prize in the latest Powerball lottery game.
Arizona Lottery officials say Alvin Yazzie came forward Friday to claim his money.
Yazzie says he bought three Powerball tickets for $6 at a Chandler store.
He says he didn’t think he won anything after hearing the $425 million Powerball jackpot winning ticket was sold in California.
It wasn’t until Yazzie checked his ticket online that he realized he had won $1 million.
Yazzie says he and his wife celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in December and now will be able to celebrate with a vacation to Hawaii.
He’ll get about $700,000 after taxes.
Lottery officials say it’s the 30th time that someone in Arizona has won a $1 million second-place Powerball prize.
