SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Two workers injured in an explosion at a Tooele County plant remain hospitalized in critical condition.

They were rushed to University Hospital’s Burn Center after the explosion early Friday morning at US Magnesium’s Rowley plant on the Great Salt Lake’s west shore, about 60 miles west of Salt Lake City.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/MmtyVm ) a 49-year-old supervisor and a 25-year-old worker were burned over their heads and torsos when hot gases erupted.

Their names have not been released.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Officials say it’s possible a lid was lifted or blown open by pressurized gas from a steel furnace device.

US Magnesium is one of the largest producers of primary magnesium in North America.
