ATKINS, Ark. (AP) - Authorities have identified a body that was found in the Arkansas River in Pope County as that of a man who disappeared after apparently trying to swim away from Arkansas State Police during a traffic stop.

The Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s office told reporters Monday that the body is that of 31-year-old Michael Shane Caldwell.

Pope County Sheriff Aaron Duvall says the body was found in the river Saturday near the Sweeden Island Park area.

Caldwell was reported missing Jan. 16 after disappearing during a Jan. 12 traffic stop by a trooper in Pope County. He was last seen trying to swim away from the trooper in the Arkansas River.
