TOWN OF DELEVAN, Wis. (AP) - A missing snowmobiler was found dead after he apparently crashed on an ice-covered lake in Walworth County over the weekend.

Searchers were called to Lake Delavan about 8 a.m. Sunday to look for the 51-year-old man who had been missing about 12 hours.

Investigators say the man’s family found his snowmobile on the frozen lake Sunday morning and called police.

Rescuers found his body near the overturned snowmobile. A warden with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources tells WISN-TV (https://bit.ly/1gxMYjM) authorities believe the snowmobiler hit a snow embankment or a snow drift on the Delevan inlet and went airborne.

The man’s name has not been released, but officials say he was from Delavan Township.

Investigators believe speed and alcohol contributed to the crash.
