PRINCETON, W.Va. (AP) - Police are awaiting autopsy results for a Virginia man who was run over by a school bus on a West Virginia road.

Mercer County sheriff’s Senior Deputy A.M. Ballard tells media outlets that investigators don’t know whether the victim was alive when he was struck.

Ballard identified the victim as 31-year-old Patrick Eric Neal of Bluefield, Va.

Ballard says the Mercer County school bus driver told police that he ran over a black object in the road and thought it was trash.

No children were on the bus at the time of the incident, which occurred around 6:15 a.m. Thursday.

Ballard says another bus driver saw Neal on the road about an hour later and called 911.
