HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Frances E. Lambert, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s mother-in-law, has died following a brief illness.

The 94-year-old Lambert, who lived with Malloy and his wife Cathy at the Governor’s Residence in Hartford, died Sunday. An obituary released Tuesday said Lambert was surrounded by her children, grandchildren and people that loved her.

Before living in Hartford, Lambert resided in Falmouth, Mass. She was described as an avid bridge player and voracious reader who was active with a book club in Falmouth. She served as a Girl Scouts leader and volunteered in various hospitals.

She and her late husband, Matthew J. Lambert Jr., were married nearly 70 years until his death at age 95 in 2012.

Services will be private. The family will receive friends and relatives at the residence Saturday.
