DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) - A winter storm hitting Michigan is keeping crews busy assisting motorists.

AAA Michigan spokeswoman Nancy Cain says there were at least 1,100 calls for service as of Wednesday morning, with the heaviest volume during the morning commute.

She says it wasn’t a record, but it was busy. Cars are in ditches, fender-benders are reported and there are dead batteries. And she notes that conditions weren’t immediately improving.

Cain says calls for service in January and early February nearly doubled from last winter statewide. Most of the calls are from southeastern Michigan.
