PASADENA, Calif. (AP) - Two hikers have been rescued after spending a chilly night huddled in the rugged mountains of a Southern California nature preserve.

A Los Angeles County sheriff’s helicopter crew hoisted the men Wednesday morning out of a narrow crevasse of the Eaton Canyon Natural Area at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains.

City News Service reports both hikers appeared to be uninjured.

The two men in their 20s called 911 Wednesday evening saying they were lost.

About a dozen personnel searched until about 2 a.m., then resumed at dawn Thursday.

Overnight temperatures dipped into the mid-40s and there were scattered showers.

Eaton Canyon is about 15 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles.
