CHULA VISTA, Calif. (AP) - Police say an 11-year-old boy took a gun to his San Diego County elementary school to show it off to friends. But they say he the gun wasn’t loaded and he never took it out of his backpack while on campus.

Chula Vista police Capt. Lon Turner says Thursday that the fifth-grader at Feaster Charter School made no threats of violence and had no plans to use the gun.

Police say the boy had taken it from his mother’s room and took it to school on Jan. 31. It was reported to school officials on Monday.

Police say they have recovered the gun and everyone involved has been cooperative.

The investigation is continuing and police did not say whether anyone would face charges.
