PETERSBURG, Va. (AP) - Fort Lee says the second phase of an $80 million renovation and construction project is underway.

Fort Lee says in a news release that the project includes new brigade and battalion headquarters buildings for the Army’s 23rd Quartermaster Brigade.

The project also includes new barracks and associated facilities.

Quartermaster School logistics support officer Glenn Conner says the existing barracks were constructed in the 1960s.

A 300-person half barracks was completed during the first phase. Community planner Fritz Brandt with the Directorate of Public Works says the remaining half barracks is expected to be completed in September.

Another 600-person barracks, physical training tracks and other facilities are expected to be completed in September 2015.
