ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - Roanoke police are reporting a rash of copper thefts.

Officials say more than three dozen thefts of copper wire, pipes or fixtures have been reported since Nov. 8. Most of the thefts have been from homes that are vacant or listed for sale.

Police spokesman Scott Leamon tells The Roanoke Times (https://bit.ly/1buX9po ) that some businesses also have reported thefts.

Copper thefts have increased in recent years as the price of copper has increased to nearly $4 a pound.
