GARDEN CITY, Idaho (AP) - Police in Garden City shot and killed a mountain lion that had apparently been wandering around a neighborhood for at least several days.

A man reported that a mountain lion bolted out from under his porch at about 4:15 p.m. Thursday. Police, a game warden and a volunteer houndsman responded, eventually tracking the lion to an island in the Boise River.

When the cat reached the head of the island it was just a few feet from re-entering the neighborhood so police officers shot it.

Idaho Fish and Game says the 5- to 6-year-old female cat was about seven feet long and weighed 90 to 100 pounds.

Fish and Game conservation officer Bill London says it was not the same cat that recently attacked two dogs in the Boise Foothills.
