LAS VEGAS (AP) - A Las Vegas police officer who shot and killed an armed man threatening suicide following a convenience store robbery in Laughlin was involved in two other shootings since joining the police department 15 years ago.

Clark County Undersheriff Jim Dixon said Friday that 28-year-old Zachary Ryan Andrews pointed a handgun at his own head but kept walking toward Officer Samuel Solorio, who backed up before firing twice late Jan. 31.

Dixon says Solorio had no choice but to shoot.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1g8lvGA ) the 37-year-old Solorio and another officer were cleared in the March 2000 shooting of an 18-year-old who police say brandished a pellet gun.

Solorio also was cleared in the September 2001 wounding of a man accused of shooting at officers after a fast-food restaurant robbery.
