CULLEN, La. (AP) - Volunteer firefighters in Cullen will stay on the job after an interim fire chief was appointed Tuesday.

KSLA-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1b3u68U ) the firefighters of Webster Parish District 6 had threatened to quit last week after learning that Chief Charles Hile was going to be removed without a vote by the fire district board.

On Tuesday night, board chairman Kenneth Garrett met with the disgruntled firefighters to discuss the need for new leadership at the Cullen station. The board then appointed Assistant Chief Tommy Arnold as interim chief until a permanent replacement is named.

After the appointment, firefighters withdrew their threat to resign.
