GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - Grand Rapids police say a 19-year-old man left a note saying “life was not worth living” before being shot while threatening officers with what turned out to be a BB gun.

The shooting happened Tuesday on the city’s southeast side. MLive.com (https://bit.ly/1dtxyhj ) says that James Spivey remains in critical condition Wednesday.

Police say Spivey called a mental health agency saying he couldn’t “take it anymore” and not to “send anyone because everyone will … die.”

They say Spivey opened the apartment door and spoke with officers before running inside. Police say the officers entered the apartment, and Spivey came downstairs with a “very realistic-looking” black gun.

Police say he refused to drop the weapon, and the officers retreated before one of them shot him twice.
