ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - The Associated Press has named Nick Tabor, a reporter who has covered health and social services, government, legal affairs and law enforcement, as a 2014 Maryland legislative session staffer.

The announcement was made Wednesday by South Region Editor Lisa Marie Pane and Mid-Atlantic News Editor Amanda Kell.

Tabor, 27, works as a freelancer researcher for Harper’s magazine after completing a 2013 internship there. He previously was a reporter for 3 ½ years at the Kentucky New Era in Hopkinsville, Ky.

Tabor earned a bachelor’s degree in English in 2009 from Hillsdale College in Michigan. He received a master’s in creative nonfiction from Goucher College in Towson, Md., in 2013.

He will work in Annapolis for 13 weeks, joining AP Statehouse correspondent Brian Witte to cover the General Assembly.
