PHOENIX (AP) - The Pima County Board of Supervisors has named a member of the Arizona House of Representatives as the replacement for an Arizona state Senator who resigned earlier this month.

Rep. Andrea Dalessandro of Green Valley was named Tuesday to replace Sen. Linda Lopez. The board chose among three Democrats sent for consideration by precinct committee members in Legislative District 2.

Lopez resigned to take a new job.

Dalessandro is expected to be sworn in Wednesday. She is a retired accountant and college professor who was elected to represent the 2nd District in 2013.

The Board of Supervisors will now have to appoint a replacement for Dalessandro’s House seat using the same procedure. State law requires the replacement to come from the same party.
