WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Wilmington’s first female police chief is retiring.

The city announced Tuesday that Christine R. Dunning’s last day will be Jan. 24. She took over as chief in 2013 after more than two decades as an officer. The 51-year-old Dunning has accepted a job as an executive assistant with New Castle County.

Inspector Bobby Cummings will serve as the interim Chief of Police. He’ll oversee a police force of about 320 members.
