…WIND CHILL ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 AM CST FRIDAY…

A WIND CHILL ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 AM CST FRIDAY.

* SHORT TERM TRENDS…TEMPERATURES HAVE WARMING TO AROUND THE 10

DEGREE MARK LATE THIS MORNING AND WILL CONTINUE TO WARM INTO THE

TEENS THIS AFTERNOON. WIND CHILL VALUES ARE GENERALLY IN THE TEN

BELOW TO ZERO RANGE LATE THIS MORNING AND WILL SLOWING RISE THIS

AFTERNOON INTO THE EVENING HOURS AS WINDS RELAX SOME. WINDS WILL

BEGIN TO INCREASE AGAIN TONIGHT AND WIND CHILL VALUES WILL ONCE

AGAIN DROP INTO THE TEENS BELOW ZERO INTO FRIDAY MORNING.

* TIMING AND AREAS AFFECTED…ALL OF EXTREME SOUTHEASTERN KANSAS

AND AREAS ALONG AND NORTH OF A CASSVILLE TO NIXA TO SALEM LINE

ACROSS THE MISSOURI OZARKS THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING.

* WIND CHILL VALUES…WIND CHILLS WILL REMAIN BELOW ZERO FOR MUCH

OF TODAY BEFORE WARMING INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS THIS EVENING. THEN

WIND CHILLS WILL DROP INTO THE TEENS BELOW ZERO TONIGHT INTO

FRIDAY MORNING..

* IMPACTS…WIND CHILLS OF THIS MAGNITUDE CAN RESULT IN FROST BITE

ON EXPOSED SKIN IN AS LITTLE AS 30 MINUTES. THOSE OUTDOORS

WITHOUT SUFFICIENT PROTECTION WILL RUN A HIGH RISK FOR FROST

BITE OR HYPOTHERMIA.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A WIND CHILL ADVISORY MEANS THAT VERY COLD AIR AND STRONG WINDS

WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE LOW WIND CHILLS. THIS WILL RESULT IN

FROST BITE AND LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN.

IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUTDOORS…MAKE SURE YOU WEAR A HAT AND

GLOVES.

PETS ARE ALSO SUSCEPTIBLE TO THE EXTREME COLD. KEEP PETS INDOORS

AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. IF THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE…MAKE SURE OUTDOOR

PETS HAVE WARM DRY SHELTER. PROVIDE SUFFICIENT FOOD AND FRESH

UNFROZEN WATER.
