DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - The Des Moines Register has named a Michigan journalist as its editor.

The Register announced Thursday (https://dmreg.co/19QCXzQ ) it had appointed Amalie Nash as its editor and vice president for audience engagement.

The 37-year-old Nash fills a position that became available when Rick Green moved from editor to president and publisher of the Register in August.

Nash has worked for the past three years as assistant managing editor for metro-state news at the Detroit Free Press. She directed the Free Press’ local news coverage and investigative team.

Nash also spent the last 15 months coordinating the Gannett Michigan network of news sites, including six newspapers and one television station.

The Register also announced that Carol Hunter has been promoted to executive news director. Hunter will direct daily content across all platforms.
