JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) - A new chief of police has been named for Joplin.

The Joplin Globe reports (https://bit.ly/1dYZ2vo ) that Jason Burns, the city’s assistant police chief, will succeed Lane Roberts as the next chief of police. Roberts announced Jan. 13 that he’s retiring effective March 28.

City Manager Mark Rohr appointed Burns on Wednesday.

Burns has worked for the city of Joplin since 1996, starting out as police officer and rising to the current rank of assistant chief in 2008.
