SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Amtrak is running on a limited schedule because of cold weather in central and northern Illinois.

The passenger rail service said Monday that it would cancel more than a dozen trains on Tuesday. Other trains still will be in service.

Some trains traveling between Chicago and St. Louis, Carbondale, Champaign, Quincy, Macomb and Milwaukee and Detroit already are running on limited schedules on Monday.

In a statement, Amtrak officials say the cancelations are aimed at maintaining service but reducing cold exposure to crews, passengers and equipment. Passengers are asked to check their train status.

Wind chills on Monday and Tuesday are expected to sink to 45 degrees below zero in northern Illinois.
