SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) - Police say a suspect in a fatal weekend shooting in Sioux City was killed as authorities attempted to arrest him.

The Sioux City Police Department says officers were trying to serve an arrest warrant at an apartment complex Tuesday morning for 29-year-old Felix Navarrette.

Police say a department SWAT member shot Navarrette in the chest as he tried to flee. Navarrette then jumped out of a second-floor window.

Police have not determined whether Navarrette died from the gunshot wound or injuries sustained in the jump.

Navarrette was linked to a Saturday house shooting that killed one man and injured another. Two people were killed at the house in November, but authorities don’t believe the shootings are directly related.

The officer, whose name has not been released, is on administrative leave.
