DILLER, Neb. (AP) - A funeral will be held Friday for a Nebraska woman who died just days after a hurriedly planned wedding: She and her fiance knew she’d soon succumb to cancer.

Jessica Nabity passed away Monday at her parents’ home outside Diller, Vaughn Wright of Harman-Wright Mortuary said Thursday. Nabity was 36.

Nabity became ill last year and was diagnosed with small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma, the Beatrice Daily Sun said (https://bit.ly/1dQxQus ). She underwent chemotherapy for what doctors said was a treatable condition.

Earlier this month Nabity bumped into her car door, and the subsequent swelling became extremely painful.

“It hurt her to bend her toes,” said her mother, Linda Holtmeier.

New X-rays showed several tumors on Nabity’s liver and in her lungs and a mass in her abdomen. On Jan. 6 Nabity was told she had only weeks to live.

So she and her fiance, Paul Nabity, decided to quickly get married. He’d proposed to her late last year in Lincoln and got the answer he wanted.

“We have been fortunate to have had the time that we’ve had and will do our best to enjoy the time we have left,” Paul Nabity told the newspaper.

The couple began planning the wedding soon after she learned of the fatal prognosis. They married on Jan. 11 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Diller.

Her mother, Linda Holtmeier, said Jessica spent her final days visiting friends and family and planning her funeral.

“She didn’t want anyone else to have to do it,” her mother said.
